(Cocoa Beach-Judd Spitzer) I live on the Banana River in Central Florida. One thing that has become a phenomena in recent years is bioluminescence in the water. At night during the summer months when the water is warmer, certain creatures give off a glow. This was not always the case, and it was once only found in just a few small spots, but it appears to be expanding into other areas of the river.
Hopefully these photos give you an idea what the bioluminescence is all about. in pitch black darkness on the river, it certainly is amazing. The river is about 1-3 feet and you can actually see fish swimming about, and their trails glow. it is amazing.
